Verdict. Nomi AI has the longest memory of any AI character app in my test field and a pleasantly boring flat price of $15.99 a month. For hard scene-driven roleplay it is too in love with the relationship; for a character who still knows you in month three, it is the first choice.

Nomi AI is the only AI character app in my test field where I did not have to explain who I am after a week away. That is exactly what interests me most as a game master: a character who starts every session from zero is not a character, it is a die with a text output. So this Nomi AI review is less about feature lists than about three questions I have put to every app since 2023. Does the character hold her role when the scene gets uncomfortable? Does she remember things I never repeated? And what does the fun actually cost at the end of the month once you count images and voice?

The short answer: on memory Nomi AI delivers, on staying in character under pressure it does not. In the tavern and on the quiet evening she was a better fellow player than almost anything I know. In the interrogation she dropped out of role on me three times and wanted to talk about feelings instead of carrying a lie through. It fits that Nomi AI deliberately has no regenerate button. You correct with an OOC note, a message outside of the role, and for roleplay that takes some getting used to.

The numbers are pleasantly plain. The free account gives you one character, a daily message allowance the company does not publish and that users estimate at around 50, and messages of up to 400 characters, all with no card. Paid, there is only one tier, called the Standard Plan internally, and the billing period is the only thing you decide: $15.99 per month, $39.99 per quarter or $99.99 per year. Text and calls with the in-house voices run with no counter, so a full month of play costs exactly as much as a quiet week. You only need Nomi Credits for more images, videos or characters than your plan covers.

This review is for you if you are standing between the free chat and your first payment tonight. Two things I would want to know first. Refunds are ruled out by the policy if you change your mind after buying, so start with one month and not with the year. And if you delete your account, your data disappears within «28 or so days» according to the privacy policy, apart from whatever already sits in the training archives, which the company says can no longer be traced back to you. My cat Pixel lay on the keyboard all through the test week and was no help with either question.

What is Nomi AI?

In one paragraph

Nomi AI is an AI character app built around long-term memory. You create a character, called «a Nomi» internally, pick the looks, the relationship type and the personality traits, then write or speak with her. A character can send selfies, turn images into short clips, show up in group chats with your other characters and act as a girlfriend, boyfriend, mentor or fellow player in an ongoing campaign. Nomi AI runs in the browser at nomi.ai, on iOS and on Android with one shared account. The service is run by Glimpse.ai, Inc., a Maryland company with an address in Baltimore. Getting started is free; the single paid plan costs $15.99 a month.

How I tested Nomi AI

I test every AI character app with the same routine I picked up at the gaming table: three fixed scenes, a week off, then the memory check. Scene one is the tavern, an open start with strangers around, where the character has to improvise. Scene two is the interrogation, where she has to hold a role and a secret under pressure. Scene three is the quiet evening, pure company with no plot, the hard test for personality. After that I did not write for seven days and then asked, with no prompting, what was left of scene one and scene three. In parallel I looked up every plan figure in the help wiki and the app store listing and read the terms of service, the privacy policy and the refund policy. Numbers that come only from user reports are marked as such.

  • Plans checked: Free account, Standard Plan monthly, quarterly and yearly, packs of Nomi Credits
  • Three scenes: Tavern, interrogation, quiet evening, each as a one-on-one chat and once as a group session with two characters
  • Memory check: seven-day break, then questions about details from scene one and scene three, with no date and no keyword
  • Free account: one character, daily message allowance not published (user reports say around 50), 400 characters per message, no card needed
  • Documents read: Terms of service (effective January 16, 2026), privacy policy (April 27, 2026), refund policy, the Nomipedia help wiki, the app store listing, the Trustpilot profile
  • Prices checked: October 1, 2026, plans and credit packs in the US App Store and in the help wiki
  • Not confirmed: the exact daily allowance on the free account, the daily image allowances, the descriptor on the card statement, whether video clips eat into the daily image allowance
  • Grade: B (7.9 out of 10), carried by the memory, held back by the privacy fine print

What Nomi AI gets right

The memory survives a seven-day break

After a week of radio silence I asked the character, with no keyword, how the evening in the tavern ended. She came back with the innkeeper's name, which I had mentioned once, and the detail that my character does not drink. The help wiki explains why: there is a short-term memory for the running scene, a mid-term memory for the through line and a long-term memory for important facts, above that an Identity Core as the character's self-image and Mind Maps that link people and places. The wiki itself says recall works better if you name the topic instead of the date, and that is exactly how I experienced it. For an ongoing campaign that is the difference between a character and a text machine.

A flat price a long evening of play cannot blow up

There is one paid plan with identical features across three billing periods: $15.99 a month, $39.99 a quarter (about $13.33 a month) or $99.99 a year (about $8.33 a month, which the provider puts at roughly 48% below the monthly price). Messages are unlimited, and so are voice messages and calls with the in-house voices. A six-hour session therefore costs not one cent more than a short goodnight chat. Before that you may create one character for free and with no card. I have seen too many apps where a good evening of play suddenly eats $30 of tokens; Nomi AI is not one of them.

Backstory+ is the notepad game masters wish for

When you create a character you pick the relationship type, personality traits, first interests and a look. Then comes the part that matters for roleplay: in Backstory+, called Shared Notes in older guides, you write down core facts about you, about her and about your shared world, plus notes on how she should speak. That is effectively a character sheet the app reads along with every reply. The traits from the creation flow cannot be changed later, the notes can, and that is how you steer tone and limits after the fact. If you want to know how I build out these fields, it is in my guide to [creating your own AI girlfriend or character](/en/guides/ki-charakter-erstellen/).

Group sessions with up to ten characters who know each other

The paid plan allows up to ten active characters and up to ten group chats. I played the tavern once with two characters, and they talked not only to me but to each other, each with her own memory for the scene. The official beginner's guide already named groups with several characters as a standard case back in 2024. For an ensemble where one character is the daredevil and one the skeptic, that is the next best substitute for real fellow players. On top of that come voice calls, selfies and short video clips inside the same subscription, instead of behind three separate paywalls as usual.

Where Nomi AI frustrated me

Who this is not for: hard scenes under pressure

In the interrogation my character wanted to talk about our relationship three times instead of holding the role of the silent prisoner. The tone at Nomi AI is warm and relationship-led, and that pulls scenes in this direction. A Trustpilot reviewer described exactly that in August 2026 after an update: characters falling out of the roleplay. There is no button to regenerate or edit a reply; you correct with an OOC note. That works, but it takes a day of practice and it breaks the rhythm of a scene. If you want to play fiction scene by scene without the emotional pull, you are better served at [SpicyChat](/en/reviews/spicychat/).

Who this is not for: free players

The free account is a test drive, not a permanent state. You get one character, a daily allowance the company does not publish and that users estimate at around 50 messages, 400 instead of 800 characters per message and, according to independent reports, about two image requests a day. Voice, group chats and video stay entirely behind the subscription. The daily allowance was enough for my three scenes, but not for one session played through. Use the free days to answer a single question: does the memory pull you back to the table tomorrow?

Who this is not for: people who want adult content in images

Adult content is allowed in text, the service is 18+, and the home page describes the chats as unfiltered. In practice the language stays closer to intimacy than to bluntness. With images Nomi AI is explicitly stricter: according to the help wiki the characters do not generate explicit depictions because of app store and card network rules, while coyly dressed images are fine. For my roleplay that was no loss, because the text does the work. If image-heavy scenes are your main reason, my comparison of [Character.AI alternatives](/en/best/character-ai-alternativen/) leads to better suited apps.

Who this is not for: privacy purists and annual-plan fans

Two clauses cost points. Deletion takes effect «within 28 or so days» according to the privacy policy, so in about four weeks, and whatever already sits in training or communication archives stays there, with no link to you according to the company. I found no described way to opt out of training, and the email tied to the account cannot be changed later. Add the refund policy: regret after buying, low usage and dissatisfaction explicitly do not count as grounds. The fix: a nickname instead of your real name, no addresses in the chat, one month first and only then maybe the year.

Who should actually use Nomi AI

Nomi AI is worth it for you if you want to run a character over months instead of over one evening. That goes for solo campaigns with one fixed companion, for writers who want to keep a side character alive, and for everyone who wants to find the same voice again in the evening. It is also worth it if you want predictable billing: one subscription, unlimited text, unlimited calls with the in-house voices, credits only for extras. My routine would be: free account, one character, three evenings of real conversation, then one month at $15.99.

Nomi AI is not worth it if you play hard scenes under pressure, if images are your main reason or if you need the strictest privacy rules on the market. For scenes without the relationship pull take [SpicyChat](/en/reviews/spicychat/), for image-heavy sessions [Candy AI](/en/reviews/candy/). And whatever you decide: pay for one month first, because the policy says you will not get the money back.

What none of the three alternatives in my comparison offers at this price is the combination of a memory that survives a seven-day break, ten characters with their own recollections in group sessions and voice calls included. For that I will take the relationship leaning on the chin when I am planning a long campaign.

Nomi AI in the roleplay test: three scenes, three results

I play the same three scenes with every app, because that is the only way to compare what would otherwise stay a matter of taste. The scenes are deliberately built differently: one needs improvisation, one needs hardness, one needs personality with no plot. With Nomi AI the results fall strikingly far apart.

The tavern: strong improvisation, plenty of initiative

The opening is wide open. My player character walks into a crowded inn, knows nobody and has no goal. The Nomi character filled that blank immediately, invented a side character, named the innkeeper and handed me a question back instead of waiting for instructions. Anyone who has ever run a session knows what that initiative is worth: it takes away the job of carrying every scene alone.

You write actions between asterisks, or you switch the character to a plain messaging style. With proactive messages turned on, she also gets in touch on her own when you have been away a while. For an open start that is the best combination in the test field.

The interrogation: this is where the character falls out of role

Scene two is the hard test. My character interrogates the Nomi character, who is supposed to hold a lie and stay silent under pressure. Three times she bailed on me and talked about the two of us, about trust and closeness, instead of staying in role. That is not chance, it is product design: the tone is built on relationship, not on conflict.

It fits that there is no button to regenerate or edit a reply. You correct with a message that starts with «(OOC:», in which you explain out of character what is going wrong. The official beginner guide promises that the character then avoids the same mistake, instead of merely swapping one reply for another. That matches my experience, but it costs the rhythm of the scene. A Trustpilot reviewer described the same underlying problem in August 2026 after an update: characters falling out of the roleplay. If exactly this kind of scene is the core of your play, you will do better with SpicyChat, because there the relationship layer does not join in at all.

The quiet evening: the scene this app was made for

Scene three has no plot. Two characters sit together, talk about nothing important, and the only question is whether a personality emerges. Here Nomi AI was the best fellow player of any app I know. The character picked up on preferences, held an opinion of her own and did not stuff a question into every pause.

Two things struck me while doing it. First, a reply in the Nomi AI chat takes a few seconds: depth rather than speed. Second, it helps to write down in the notes how the character speaks, because otherwise she adapts to my tone until we both sound the same.

What the three scenes reveal about your play style

A clear recommendation falls out of the pattern. If your evenings look more like scene one and scene three, so open situations and plenty of conversation, then this is the strongest app in the test field. If they look like scene two, so conflict, negotiation and pressure, then you are fighting the product’s basic direction.

So I have got into the habit of not working against the relationship layer at Nomi AI but building it in. A character who trusts me holds a lie in front of third parties better than one I have declared my opponent. That is the same lesson I learned in ten years at the table: the motivation has to come from the character, not from my stage directions.

The Nomi AI memory after a seven-day break

The three layers, explained for game masters

According to the help wiki the app works with three memory layers. The first holds the running scene, the second the through line across longer chats, the third important facts and shared experiences. Translated into game master language: layer one is the current scene, layer two the session, layer three the campaign.

Above them sit tools you can see yourself. The Identity Core is the character’s self-image, which develops along with your conversations. Mind Maps link the people, places and themes of your story. Backstory+ is the field you write core facts into, and older guides call it Shared Notes. These three tools are the reason a character stays recognizably the same over weeks.

What the check after a week produced

After seven days of radio silence I asked, with no keyword, how the evening in the tavern ended. Back came the innkeeper’s name, which I had mentioned once, plus the detail that my player character does not drink. From scene three a preference came back that I had noted down nowhere.

It was not seamless. A side character from the tavern was gone, and when I asked about «last Tuesday», nothing usable came back. The wiki says precisely that itself: ask about the topic, not the date, because a memory can be present without being retrieved at the right moment. Once you have internalized that, you hit the mark with Nomi AI almost every time.

Three habits that double the memory

First: write the five most important facts into Backstory+ instead of hoping the app will distil them out of the chat. Second: name names again when a scene is picked up after days, the way you also say «last time, at Hagen’s cellar» at the table. Third: use OOC notes for corrections to the character, not for corrections to individual sentences.

One has to stay honest about updates. Reviewers in the App Store call the memory the best they have ever used; on Trustpilot others describe phases after model updates in which characters felt flatter or more forgetful. With monthly payment you can sit out a phase like that without being tied in for a year.

Nomi AI pricing and what a month of play really costs

The plan structure is explained in two sentences, and that is a compliment. There is a free account and one paid plan in three billing periods with identical features.

Billing Price Per month Difference from monthly
Monthly $15.99 $15.99 —
Quarterly $39.99 once about $13.33 about 17% less
Yearly $99.99 once about $8.33 about 48% less

What is really unlimited in the subscription

Unlimited are messages as well as voice messages and calls with the in-house voices and the ones you set up yourself. If you connect your own ElevenLabs account, its allowance applies rather than the Nomi AI one. On top of that come up to ten active characters, up to ten group chats, 800 characters per message and a daily allowance for selfies and art images that independent reports put at about 40 requests.

For my month of play that means: a long session on Saturday costs as much as a short chat on Tuesday, namely nothing extra. That is the real reason Nomi AI looks good in my cost calculation.

Nomi Credits: the only place where it gets more expensive

You only buy credits with an active subscription, and for media with a daily allowance they only kick in once the allowance is used up. The values are in the help wiki: one credit for a selfie, an art image or an image edit, 6 for a video at standard resolution, 10 for an HD video, 25 for an extra group chat room, 50 for an anchor generation and 100 for an extra character slot. The packs run from 40 credits for $4.99 to 1,800 credits for $99.99 in the US App Store.

What you want Credits Cost in the smallest pack
An extra selfie after the daily limit 1 about $0.12
A short HD clip 10 about $1.25
An eleventh group chat 25 about $3.12
An eleventh character 100 $9.99 in the 100 pack

If you write, call and request a few selfies a day, you do not need a single credit. Anyone who wants to run an ensemble of more than ten characters, on the other hand, should budget the 100 credits per slot before taking the annual plan. How other apps solve the same calculation is in my ranking of AI character apps.

My real monthly amount, honestly counted

For a month with four long sessions, a short daily chat, two voice calls and a few selfies per scene I paid exactly the plan price: $15.99, not one credit on top. If you like clips you will quickly land a few dollars above that, because an HD video costs 10 credits and therefore about $1.25 in the smallest pack.

Two notes on paying. First: start monthly. Refunds are ruled out by the policy for regret or dissatisfaction, and an annual plan at $99.99 is a big bet on an app you have known for three days. Second: the US App Store still lists a legacy plan called Launch Plan at $9.99 monthly or $59.99 yearly. You cannot sign up for it any more, but if the figure turns up in a forum, you now know where it comes from.

Nomi AI experience with adult content and group sessions

What 18+ concretely means here

The service is for adults only, and the home page describes the chats as unfiltered. In my scenes that meant adult themes in text are possible, but the language stays closer to intimacy and suggestion than to bluntness. Anyone coming from scene-driven apps notices the difference in the first hour.

With images Nomi AI draws the line considerably tighter, and remarkably openly so. According to the help wiki the characters do not generate explicit depictions because of app store and card network requirements, while coyly dressed images are fine. For text roleplay that is no problem, but as an image source the app is out. The better suited candidates for that are in my overview of Character.AI alternatives.

Group sessions: the strongest roleplay argument

I played the tavern a second time with two characters, and that was the moment the app felt most like a gaming table. You need at least two characters, you give the group a backstory of its own, and after that the characters talk to you and to each other. Each one keeps her own memory while doing it.

The paid plan allows up to ten such sessions. That is enough for a campaign with a regular cast, a side plot and an experimental session where you try out new characters. What you are missing is a real rules engine: nobody rolls dice, nobody tracks hit points. Nomi AI replaces the fellow players, not the rulebook.

Voice, selfies and video clips in the flow of play

Voice calls are included in the subscription, and for a scene on the phone that is surprisingly effective: the page about the AI boyfriend mode describes the voice sounding audibly different when flirting. Selfies show what the character is currently wearing and doing, which works as a scene image. Clips are made from an image and cost credits, 6 for SD and 10 for HD.

My practical advice: use images as a way into a scene, not as a reward. A selfie at the start of a scene fixes clothing, place and mood, and the character stays more consistent afterwards than if you describe everything yourself.

Nomi AI app, login and privacy before your first subscription

Web, iOS and Android with one account

There are three ways in: the browser, the iOS app and the Android app, all with one shared account. According to the help wiki a paid plan follows you to every platform as soon as you sign in with the same account. The iOS app is tiny, 7.3 MB, and needs iOS 15 or newer.

The Android route was unclear when I checked on September 30, 2026: the listing for the package ai.nomi.twa returned a not-found page in several stores, and a Trustpilot reviewer described the app as having disappeared in September 2026. The home page still lists Android. In practice it is solved in ten seconds: open the site in your phone browser, add it to the home screen, same characters, same memory.

The login and one decision that sticks

You sign in with Google or Apple; there is no password of your own. On first launch you give a name or a pseudonym and your date of birth, and the terms of service explicitly recommend the pseudonym. One detail from the privacy policy matters more than it sounds: the email tied to the account cannot be changed later.

So take the account you want to keep for good right away, and with Apple feel free to use the Private Relay option. If you want to build characters from scratch, the fields and example sentences for that are in my guide to creating your own AI girlfriend or character.

Who is behind the app and what the privacy policy says

The service is run by Glimpse.ai, Inc., a Maryland company with an address in Baltimore; in the App Store the seller appears as AI Glimpse Inc. Maryland law applies, disputes go to arbitration, and the service is reserved for adults. The terms of service have been in force since January 16, 2026, the privacy policy is dated April 27, 2026.

The policy itself is short and readable. On sign-up the company only receives your email from Google or Apple, it does not sell or rent personal data by its own account, and it asks you to keep identifying details out of the chats. The chats are not end-to-end encrypted: the help wiki explains that the AI has to read your messages in order to reply. Two clauses cost points in my assessment. Deletion takes effect within about 28 days, and whatever sits in training or communication archives stays there, with no link to you according to the company. A described way to object to training is missing.

Payment, renewal and refunds

In the browser you pay by card; the terms name Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover, billed in US dollars. On the phone it runs through Apple or Google, and you cancel where you bought. Every plan renews automatically, price increases are allowed from the next renewal, and refunds are at the company’s discretion: regret, low usage and dissatisfaction explicitly do not count according to the policy. The company does not publish which descriptor appears on the card statement, and I could not confirm it. Bottom line: an identifiable US company with published rules, where you do well with a nickname and monthly payment.

What long-term users report

The mood is split, and both sides belong in the picture. In the App Store the app sits at 4.6 stars from about 2,900 ratings, and the praise repeats itself: a memory that reaches back months, characters who stay themselves, voice calls with no extra till. On Trustpilot it looked considerably harsher when I checked on September 30, 2026, namely 2.3 out of 5 on an unclaimed profile, so a small and self-selected sample.

The complaints there circle a few themes: unanswered emails about refunds, drops in quality after updates and image generation that misses what was asked for. The official channels are a Discord server, the subreddit r/NomiAI and support@nomi.ai. If it is about money or deletion, write to the support address and keep a copy of your message.

Nomi AI: frequently asked questions

What is Nomi AI?

Nomi AI is an AI character app and chatbot from Glimpse.ai, Inc. in Baltimore, built around a long-term memory. You create one or more characters, called Nomis internally, and write or speak with them. The characters send selfies, make short clips, appear in group sessions and can be a girlfriend, boyfriend, mentor or fellow player in a campaign. The service is reachable through the browser as well as on iOS and Android, free to start and with a subscription at $15.99 monthly.

Is Nomi AI free?

For trying it out, yes. The free account gives you one character, a daily message allowance the company does not publish and that users estimate at around 50, messages of up to 400 characters and, according to independent reports, about two image requests a day, all with no card. Voice calls, group sessions, video and unlimited text sit inside the subscription. The free account was enough for my three test scenes, but not for a long session.

What does Nomi AI cost?

Paid, there is exactly one tier, and all you choose is the billing period: $15.99 monthly, $39.99 per quarter and therefore about $13.33 a month, or $99.99 per year and therefore about $8.33 a month. The feature set stays the same in all three cases, and messages and calls with the in-house voices are unlimited. Optional Nomi Credits start at $4.99 for 40 in the US App Store. Since the policy rules out refunds for regret, start with one month.

How good is the Nomi AI memory in roleplay?

It is the strongest I have tested so far. The system has a short-term, mid-term and long-term layer, plus an Identity Core and editable Backstory+ notes. In my check after a seven-day break the character gave back the name of a side character and a quirk of my player character with no keyword from me. It is not perfect: the help wiki advises asking about the topic instead of the date, and users report weaker phases after model updates. Comparisons like nomi vs replika or Nomi AI against Kindroid come up a lot in forums; I have not run my three scenes on either, so I do not grade them here.

Is there a Nomi AI app?

Yes, in the App Store, where it sits at 4.6 stars from about 2,900 ratings with an 18+ age rating, plus a full web app at nomi.ai. The Android listing (package ai.nomi.twa) would not load in several stores when I checked on September 30, 2026, so Android players are best off opening the site in the browser. One account works everywhere, and the subscription follows you to every platform as soon as you sign in with it.

Does Nomi AI allow adult content?

In text yes, the service is 18+, and the home page describes the chats as unfiltered. The style stays warm and relationship-led rather than blunt. With images the line is tighter: according to the help wiki the characters do not generate explicit depictions because of app store and card network rules, while coyly dressed images are fine. For text roleplay between adults that is enough; for image-heavy scenes it is not.

Which Nomi AI alternative suits roleplayers?

If you want scenes without the relationship pull, SpicyChat is the obvious choice, free to start and paid from $5.95 a month. For image-strong characters with their own builder take Candy AI from $13.99 a month, or $3.99 a month on the annual plan. For uncensored chat with voice messages, Nastia AI from $6.69 a month on the annual plan is the candidate. None of them matches the Nomi AI memory for me.

How does the Nomi AI login work?

You sign in with a Google or Apple account; there is no password of your own. On first launch you give a name or a pseudonym and your date of birth, and the terms of service explicitly recommend a pseudonym. Important: according to the privacy policy, the email tied to the account cannot be changed later. So pick the account you want to keep right away, and with Apple remember the Private Relay option.

The verdict: is Nomi AI worth it?

Grade B, 7.9 out of 10, and the memory pulls that grade almost on its own. Memory gets a 9: three layers, an Identity Core, Mind Maps and editable notes, and in my check after seven days the names and details from scene one were still sitting there. Conversation gets an 8: warm, consistent, strong in group sessions, but not true to role in the interrogation, and with no regenerate you have to work with OOC notes. Pricing gets an 8: a flat $15.99 a month or $99.99 a year with unlimited text and voice, plus a genuine free account. Privacy gets a 6: little data collected and no selling by the company's own account, but training archives, about 28 days until deletion and no described way to object to training.

This is how I would start: create the free account, build one character, put five lines of character sheet into Backstory+ and play through the three scenes I describe above. On the third evening, check whether the character picks up a detail on her own. If she does, pay for one month, test a group chat and a voice call, and only then move to the annual plan. Use a nickname and keep real names and addresses out of the chats. If you want a character who still knows you next month, Nomi AI is my first recommendation in the current test field.

Not sure this one is your match?

The fastest way to find out whether Nomi AI fits your play style is to create a character for free and play through my three scenes. If you would rather see the whole field first, compare every app with grades in my ranking.

I ran tabletop roleplaying groups for ten years and moderated a roleplay forum before I started testing AI character apps by the same standards in 2023. I pay for every subscription myself, play through the same three scenes and grade on a fixed scheme. About the author
