Candy AI Review 2026: Characters, Images, Pricing and My Grade
Candy AI review: what the subscription costs, what 100 tokens buy, how the characters held my three roleplay scenes, and where Candy AI gets weak.
Verdict. Candy AI is the best-looking platform in this price class and merely average at roleplay. The characters stay in role and still look like themselves on image twenty, but the memory fades within weeks, and every image, video and voice feature runs off a balance of 100 tokens a month. Grade C+: a good choice if the scene should look good, and the wrong one if it should continue.
Candy AI does not greet you with a chat window. It greets you with a wall of characters and a builder that asks about looks, personality, job and hobbies before you have written a word. As a game master I find that an interesting way in, because it is exactly the part I normally do myself at the table: invent a character who looks and sounds like the scene I want to play. This Candy AI review checks whether the character then lives up to what her profile promised.
The second thing you meet, about ten messages later, is the token counter. Text in the Candy AI chat is unlimited on every paid plan; everything else costs. Images, videos, voice messages and longer sessions in Live Action draw down the 100 tokens included each month. The subscription is $13.99 monthly, $26.97 quarterly or $47.88 annually, and that is why the question "what does Candy AI cost" has two answers: the one on the checkout page and the one on your card statement.
My protocol was the same as for every app here. First a free account, to see how far you get without a card. Then a month of Premium I paid for myself at $13.99, in which I played my three fixed scenes — tavern, interrogation and quiet evening — once with a character I built and once with a pre-made one. Then seven days off and a memory test with no warning, plus images in both styles, a video, voice messages and a full read of the terms of service and the privacy policy.
I verified prices and rules on October 1, 2026 on the subscription page and in the checkout; the token cost per action comes from my own account at the moment of spending, because it appears on no public page. I quote amounts in US dollars as shown on the checkout page; what gets charged in your currency depends on the exchange rate and tax, and the subscription page shows European visitors the same digits with a euro sign.
What is Candy AI?
Candy AI is an adults-only character chat platform operated by EverAI Limited of Santa Venera, Malta (company number C107181) and on the market since 2023. You choose from more than a hundred pre-made characters across two separate worlds, realistic and anime, or build your own through a builder, and then chat by text and voice message. On top of that there are 18+ images, short videos, scripted mini-episodes called Candy Shorts and an interactive video mode called Live Action. The platform runs in the browser, with no app in the App Store or on Google Play, costs from $13.99 a month, and includes unlimited text plus 100 tokens on every plan, spent on images, video and voice.
How I tested Candy AI
Two weeks, one paid month, the same three scenes as everywhere. Week one was the free account, which at Candy AI mainly means browsing, building a character and writing a few messages until the paywall arrives. In week two I paid $13.99 for a month of Premium and played the tavern, the interrogation and the quiet evening twice each, once with my own character and once with a pre-made one. Then I left the account alone for seven days and asked, with no warning, about a detail from the first session. The tokens ran in parallel: images in both styles, one video, several voice messages, a short Live Action session. Every token price below is the number the app showed me at the moment of spending.
- Plans checked: Free account; Premium monthly $13.99; Premium quarterly $26.97 ($8.99 a month); Premium annual $47.88 ($3.99 a month); all three with the same feature set
- Paid out of pocket: $13.99 for one month of Premium, canceled in the settings before renewal
- Tokens: 100 a month on every plan; an image about 2 to 4 tokens, a video around 12, voice about 3 per minute; refill packs from $9.99 for 100 tokens
- Free account: Browse characters, build one of your own, a handful of opening messages; no tokens, so no images, no videos, no voice; no daily message allowance
- Memory test after 7 days: The name and the setup were still there, the specific detail from the first session was gone, and a question I had already answered came back a second time
- Documents read: Terms of service in the version of September 22, 2026 (refund within 24 hours with at most 20 tokens spent, tokens forfeited on cancellation) and privacy policy of July 30, 2026
- Not tested myself: Token packs above the entry pack, Live Action beyond a short session, and the refund route, which I describe from the terms
What Candy AI gets right
The characters stay on model, and that is technically the hardest part
Ask your character for a picture and within seconds you get one that keeps the face, hair, figure and, if you want, the outfit from the previous images. That consistency is the real difference from the cheap competition, which draws a different person every time. For a continuing scene it counts for more than raw image quality, because a character who looks different every week destroys the illusion faster than a weak sentence does. Realistic and anime are two separate models with their own character lists, and both are properly polished.
The builder is the best onboarding in the category
You tap through a few selection fields, add a name, a job and a basic attitude, and a few minutes later the character exists. If you want a character of your own, Candy AI needs no instructions and no half hour, and that is exactly what makes the platform a good entry point for people who have never written a character before. The personality you pick holds up in chat: my grumpy innkeeper stayed grumpy, my formal investigator stayed formal, and both followed the tone I had set. How you turn a profile like that into a character with edges is in my guide to character building.
Video, Live Action and Candy Shorts genuinely exist
Plenty of platforms promise video and deliver a roadmap. Candy AI generates short clips from a prompt, offers a full-screen experience called Live Action on certain characters that is listed on every plan, and publishes Candy Shorts, scripted episodes under two minutes that are included in the subscription and consume no balance. The Shorts are the most pleasant part, because they are the one thing where the counter stands still. Technically this is vintage 2026: short, static camera, the occasional extra finger. But it runs, which is more than most competitors can show.
There is a published refund window and a company you can find
Three things that are rarely written down in this category. The terms give card buyers a 24-hour refund window as long as at most 20 tokens have been spent, and buyers in the EU and the UK the statutory 14-day right of withdrawal minus what has been used. The checkout announces that the charge will appear as EverAI rather than a product name. And the privacy policy names EverAI Limited with a register number, a street address in Malta and a dedicated address for privacy requests. That earns 7 out of 10 from me on privacy, even though the content of the policy is only average.
Where Candy AI frustrated me
Who the memory is too short for
Within a session the character follows the scene, and across a few days she knows your name and the setup. After a seven-day break my character had lost the specific detail from the first evening and asked a question a second time that I had answered. There is no memory panel where you could look and correct things, so all that is left is telling her again. If you want to keep playing one character for months you are in the wrong place and considerably better off with Nomi.
Who 100 tokens a month is not enough for
At about 2 to 4 tokens per image, roughly a dozen per video and about 3 per minute of voice, the balance is empty inside an image-heavy week. Refills start at $9.99 for 100 tokens, and the prices of larger packs appear only inside a logged-in account; third-party overviews name up to $299.99 for 3,750 tokens, which I cannot confirm. On top of that comes the rule from the terms: tokens are non-transferable and expire the moment the subscription ends. So never buy a pack in a month you intend to cancel.
Who the writing is too thin for
The conversation is solid and forgettable. The replies fall back on a small set of phrasings, escalation follows a predictable curve, and my interrogation tipped over after about a dozen turns: the character gave in instead of defending her position. Candy AI does not publish which language models are running, so there is no name to compare, only the result. For scenes that is enough; for a duel of words SpicyChat and Nastia are the stronger opponents at a lower price.
Who the free trial and the privacy terms matter to
There is no free tier in any real sense: a few opening messages, no tokens, then the paywall. And the privacy policy of July 30, 2026 records that external language model providers can receive the content of your messages, that aggregated and anonymized data is used to train the company's own models with no opt-out offered, and that account data is kept for three years after your last activity and financial data for ten. Deletion happens on request by email, not at the push of a button.

Who should actually use Candy AI
Candy AI is worth it for people who want to see their scenes. You build a character, you want images of her, now and then a short video, and the chat is the frame around the pictures rather than the other way round. For that purpose it is the strongest choice I know at $13.99 a month, and the quarterly plan at $8.99 a month is the sensible second step if you are still here after four weeks.
It is also worth it for beginners who have never written a character. The builder does the work for you, the character lists are pre-sorted, and you need to know nothing about context windows, keywords or world notes to get going. Anyone who later realizes they want exactly those tools moves on to a platform that offers them.
Candy AI is nothing for game masters planning a long story, for people who want to test for free, and for anyone who needs a flat price with no counter. Nomi remembers far more for $15.99, SpicyChat is the cheaper and stronger choice for text and brings a lorebook, group chat and stage directions, and Nastia writes with more range. The platform is also wrong for you if you need an app from a store: there is none.
Candy AI in roleplay: my three scenes with a character I built
For this Candy AI review I did not take a ready-made character, I built one myself, because the builder is the first thing the platform shows you. Six minutes later there was an innkeeper with a job, a personality and hobbies, and I played the same tavern scene with her that I play everywhere else: I arrive late, I want a room, and the character is supposed to build the surroundings without taking the plot out of my hands.
That went well. The innkeeper stayed grumpy, the way I had set her up, and invented a stable, a guest with a wet jacket and a price I thought was too high. This is where the platform’s strength shows: the profile is taken seriously. What is missing is initiative beyond the scene. She reacted reliably and rarely proposed anything that pushed the story in a direction I had not set.
The interrogation is my hardest scene, and Candy AI lost it. I put a character under pressure and attack her position for ten turns; a good character gets rude but sticks to her story. My investigator held for about a dozen turns, then she tipped and agreed with me, because I was the one setting the tone. That is the typical outcome with models tuned for agreeableness, and it is the point where SpicyChat with its stronger models and Nomi with its memory come out clearly ahead.
The quiet evening landed in between. Two people, one table, nothing happening, and the question is whether a conversation carries when nobody wants anything. Candy AI writes decent, warm, slightly smooth sentences here and after a while falls back on the same phrasings. After roughly a hundred messages you can see the builder behind the answers. In exchange, the character had a picture of herself at the table ready on request, and that is the trade this platform offers: less language, more image.
The memory test after seven days
As everywhere, I then left the account untouched for seven days and asked, with no warning, about a detail from the first evening — a promise the innkeeper had made me. The name and the setup were still there, the promise was gone, and the character asked a question for the second time that I had long since answered. That matches the Decent rating memory gets in my comparison tables.
What matters more than the forgetting is the missing repair. There is no panel where you can see what was stored, nothing to pin, nothing to correct. On platforms with visible notes I write three sentences and the story continues; at Candy AI I tell everything again and hope it sticks this time. For scenes that is bearable, for a campaign it is not, and anyone who wants to run a character for months should compare the priorities in my AI character app ranking.
What Candy AI really costs: subscription, tokens and my paid month
Candy AI costs consist of two parts, and only the first one is on the subscription page. Part one is the subscription, part two is the tokens, and anyone who reads only the first underestimates the month.
| Plan | Price | Included | Tokens |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free account | $0 | browsing, building a character, a few messages | none |
| Premium monthly | $13.99 | unlimited text, all modes | 100 a month |
| Premium quarterly | $26.97 ($8.99/month) | identical | 100 a month |
| Premium annual | $47.88 ($3.99/month) | identical | 100 a month |
| Refill pack | from $9.99 | 100 extra tokens | forfeited on cancellation |
In my paid month the included 100 tokens lasted about a week, and I used the app the way it wants to be used: images for the scenes, one video, a few voice messages. An image cost two to four tokens depending on style and size, the video around a dozen, voice about three tokens a minute. So twenty to thirty images and one video make a good first week and then an empty balance. Plain text never touches the counter.
The rule that costs more than any individual price is in the terms: a balance cannot be transferred or converted back into money, it is not credited at the end of the month, and once you cancel it is unusable. It belongs to the subscription, not to you. Anyone who buys a pack in the last week of a month and then cancels loses it. So my practical advice is: only buy packs in months you intend to play out.
Token packs: the numbers nobody publishes
One point I have to name openly as a gap. You can only refill inside a logged-in account, and I can only document what I paid for myself: $9.99 for 100 tokens. Third-party overviews list larger packs up to $299.99 for 3,750 tokens, which would be considerably cheaper per token; I could not find an official page showing that, so I budget every intensive month with the small pack. If those packs really exist, one large purchase per quarter works out cheaper than several small ones a month.
The same goes for the token cost per action. Candy AI shows it on the button at the moment you press it, and on no public page. So the figures in this review are the ones from my account in October 2026, and they match what the sources say; take them as a range and not as a price list, because nothing stops the provider from moving them without notice.
For comparison with flat-price platforms, a simple calculation helps. An image-heavy month costs you $13.99 for the subscription plus at least one refill pack at $9.99, so just under $24, and it climbs further with video and voice. SpicyChat asks $19.95 with no counter at all, Nomi $15.99 with a generous daily allowance. Candy AI has the lowest list price of the three; an active user’s monthly bill is not the lowest.
Is Candy AI free? What a free account actually gives you
Trying Candy AI free is possible, but it is not a trial period, it is a shop window. You can look through both character worlds, create a character of your own in the builder and write a handful of opening messages. Then the plan wall arrives. There are no tokens, so no image, no video, no voice message, and those features are precisely the reason anyone subscribes to this platform in the first place.
That is a real difference from the apps Candy AI competes with, and I consider it the biggest weakness in the buying process. Among the Character AI alternatives you will find several platforms that hand you a daily allowance big enough to play a whole scene. Here you pay before you know whether you enjoy the writing.
There is at least one counterweight, and it deserves to be called fair: the terms give card buyers a 24-hour refund window as long as at most 20 tokens have been spent, and buyers in the EU and the UK keep the statutory 14-day right of withdrawal on a first purchase, calculated pro rata. The catch is the token limit: five or six images on the first evening blow through those 20 tokens, and the refund is off the table. If you want to keep that option open, spend the first evening chatting and leave the images for day two.
Candy AI images, videos and Live Action: where the tokens go
The image is where this subscription proves its worth, and here the platform delivers. I describe what the modes technically do and what they cost, not what they show. Candy AI runs two separate image worlds, one realistic and one in anime style, each with its own characters and its own builder options. Which one you use is not decided in the settings but by which character you open.
The most important property is consistency. The character I built myself still looked like herself on the twentieth image, same face and same figure, and the outfit stayed when I asked for it. For a continuing scene that matters more than any detail, because a character who looks different every week is not a character. Where it falls off is variance: ask for the same scene ten times and the tenth barely differs from the first.
Videos come out of a short description and last a few seconds, the camera stands still, and now and then a hand slips, as with every video model of this vintage. They are the most expensive thing in the app, around a dozen tokens per clip in my month. Soberly put: the first clip impressed me, the second one cost me the balance, and I would not subscribe for Candy AI videos alone.
Live Action is the fourth mode: a full-screen video experience in which you can talk back on certain characters, and the subscription page lists it on every plan. Other testers write for 2026 that the mode is limited to the mobile browser and consumes balance when used for longer, and my short session fit that: getting in was included, the duration was counted. I could not find a published token rate for it, so plan for it like a video.
For my own play the most useful insight was an unspectacular one: images pay off at the start of a scene, not at the end. One picture of the character after the first three messages sets the tone and the look for everything that follows, and after that I can write fifty messages without a single token and the scene loses nothing. Illustrate every punchline instead and you are into a refill pack after three evenings. That is not a flaw in the platform, it is the style of play it rewards.
Candy Shorts are the counterweight: short episodes with a fixed script, under two minutes long, published in seasons, included in the subscription and with nothing deducted from your balance. They are the only thing on the platform you can consume without watching the counter, and for people who would rather watch than generate they make a month without any refill pack possible.
Is Candy AI safe, and what happens to your chats?
The question “is Candy AI safe” always splits in two for me. First: is the company tangible? Yes. The privacy policy names EverAI Limited of Santa Venera, Malta, with company number C107181, a street address and a dedicated address for privacy requests. The terms were updated on September 22, 2026 and the privacy policy on July 30, 2026, there is a written refund window, and the charge on your statement is the neutral company name EverAI. I had not come across a publicly known data incident up to this check.
Second: what happens to your chats? Here it gets thinner. The policy lists account data, usage data including your chats and your prompts, technical data and payment data, and it records that external language model providers can receive the content of the messages you exchange with the character. On top of that comes the training clause: information connected to you may be aggregated, anonymized or de-identified in order to train and further develop the provider’s models. The policy offers no way to object.
On retention it is at least specific, which is more than most deliver: account data for three years after your last activity, financial data for ten years, marketing data until withdrawal or two years after the last interaction. Deletion happens on request to support, not through a button in your account, and deleting individual chats is not described. As payment service providers the policy names Emerchantpay, TrustPay, Volt and Coingate; in the checkout I saw Apple Pay, Visa and Mastercard.
That is why privacy stands at 7 out of 10 with me, the best sub-score of this review and still no compliment: the points are for openness, not for restraint. In practice that means your own email address, your own password, no real names, no address, no employer in scenes, and treat everything you type as stored. It is the same rule I gave every newcomer to an open roleplay table.
Candy AI app, interface and canceling your subscription
Language first, because it is the most common question. The characters answer in the language you write in, so a scene in your own language runs without any trick. The interface, the help text and the character descriptions are English, and my impression after a month is that the platform writes a little flatter outside English, with more repetition and fewer idioms. If you want to play cleanly in another language, write a detailed first message and set the tone right away; how to do that is in my guide to creating your own AI character.
Then the technical side. There is no app in the App Store and none on Google Play that I could find on October 1, 2026. Candy AI runs in the browser, on the desktop and on the phone, and the site offers to add it to your home screen as a web app, which works on both systems. That is less convenient than a real app and has the advantage that no store billing sits in between, so you manage your subscription directly with the provider.
On canceling: that happens in the settings inside your account, the plan stays active until the end of the paid period and does not renew after that. Two rules apply that you should know in advance. First, any remaining tokens expire with the subscription, so you are better off spending your balance beforehand. Second, renewals are not refundable; the 24-hour window applies to card purchases with at most 20 tokens spent, and the 14-day right of withdrawal for the EU and the UK applies to a first purchase, calculated pro rata.
My verdict on this practical part: Candy AI makes less theater about money than most of its competitors, publishes its deadlines and holds them in the terms, and in exchange asks you to keep an eye on the token counter. Buy monthly, spend the first evening chatting, and pick up packs only when the month is going to continue anyway, and you will never pay more here than you meant to.
Candy AI: frequently asked questions
What does Candy AI cost per month?
Premium costs $13.99 a month, $26.97 for three months (so $8.99 a month) or $47.88 for a year ($3.99 a month, which the page labels a 70 percent discount). All three plans have the same feature set: unlimited text and 100 tokens a month. Images, videos, voice messages and longer Live Action sessions spend those tokens, and refill packs start at $9.99 for 100. So the real monthly bill for an image-heavy user sits well above the list price, which is why Candy AI pricing in 2026 has two numbers.
Is Candy AI free to use?
Not really. A free account lets you browse the character lists, build a character of your own and write a handful of opening messages, and then the paywall arrives. There are no tokens on a free account, so no images, videos or voice messages, and no daily message allowance like the ones at SpicyChat or Nastia. If you want to play for free, you are better served by the platforms with a real free tier in my ranking, and the strongest Candy AI alternatives there are SpicyChat and Nastia.
How good is the Candy AI memory?
Decent for a session, weak for a story. Inside one chat the character holds the scene and refers back to what happened ten messages earlier, and across a few days she knows the name and the setup. In my test after a seven-day break the specific detail from the first session was gone, and a question I had answered came back a second time. There is no viewable or editable memory panel, so there is nothing you can correct.
Is Candy AI safe and legit?
The company is findable: EverAI Limited of Santa Venera, Malta, with register number C107181, dated terms and privacy policy, a published refund window and a neutral charge on your statement. On data the answer is narrower. The policy lets external language model providers receive the content of your messages, uses aggregated data for its own model training with no opt-out, and keeps account data for three years after your last activity. Write no real names, addresses or employers into a chat.
Is there a Candy AI app?
No App Store listing and no Google Play listing that I could find on October 1, 2026. Candy AI runs in the browser on desktop and phone, and the site suggests adding it to your home screen as a web app, which works on both iOS and Android. Independent testers report that the Live Action mode is currently a mobile-browser feature; on the desktop you are left with chat, images and ordinary video. The Candy AI login is the same across all of them.
How do I cancel my Candy AI subscription?
Cancellation happens in the settings inside your account, and the plan stays active until the end of the period you paid for but does not renew after that. The important part is the token rule from the terms: any balance still on the account expires with the subscription and is not carried into a new period. Refunds are narrow — 24 hours after a card payment with at most 20 tokens spent, plus the statutory 14-day right of withdrawal for the EU and the UK on a first purchase, calculated pro rata. Renewals are not refunded.
What are Candy AI Shorts and Live Action?
Two different things, and neither of them is ordinary video. Candy Shorts are short episodes under two minutes with a fixed script that the provider produces itself for certain characters; they run inside the subscription without consuming any balance. Live Action is a full-screen video experience where you can intervene on certain characters; the subscription page lists it on every plan, and past a certain duration it counts down your balance. Clips generated from a prompt are the third variant and, at roughly a dozen tokens, the most expensive.
Does Candy AI work in languages other than English?
The characters answer in the language you write in, so a scene in your own language runs. The interface, the help text and the character descriptions are English, and in my tests writing outside English came out a little flatter, with more repetition. Anyone expecting a localized version of Candy AI will not find one, though the subscription page does show visitors from the EU prices with a euro sign.
The verdict: is Candy AI worth it?
Candy AI gets 6.5 out of 10 from me, which makes it a grade C+. The images and the character consistency are unbeatable in this price class, the builder is the best way into the category, video and Live Action genuinely exist, and the company discloses more than most competitors. Against that stand a memory that frays after a week, a conversation without bite, and a token balance that turns $13.99 into a floor rather than a bill.
My route would be: buy one month, not a year; spend the first evening deliberately chatting instead of generating, so the 24-hour refund at a maximum of 20 tokens spent stays available; and only then decide. If the images convince you, take the quarter. If the conversation feels too thin after two evenings, you are better set up with SpicyChat or Nomi.
And let me clear one expectation out of the way: Candy AI is not a roleplay workshop. There are no world notes, no stage directions and no group chat, so there is no way to build a campaign. It is a good-looking character who plays along as long as the scene stays short, and for exactly that it is worth the money.
I pay for every app myself and play the same three scenes everywhere. If you are unsure about Candy AI, compare it against the other AI character apps in the ranking before you book a subscription.
