GirlfriendGPT Review 2026: the first app where I could correct the memory myself
GirlfriendGPT review: around 29,000 characters, an editable memory panel, 16K context, coins for images and video. Pricing, my grade and who it is worth it for.
Verdict. GirlfriendGPT is the first AI character app where I opened my character's memory, read it and corrected it by hand, and that panel is the reason the platform belongs on this list. On top of that come around 29,000 public characters, a profile field with room for 2,500 tokens and a storytelling engine on the top tier that keeps a plot straight across a whole session. Against that stand free access of twenty messages, an honest entry price only on the $35 tier, a coin counter on every image and every voice line, and a privacy policy that still stores your data six years after you leave. Grade C+.
Of all the apps in this GirlfriendGPT review, exactly one feature changed the way I work as a game master: a panel next to the chat showing what the character has noted down about me. Not a promise about long-term memory on a plan card, but a list of entries I can read, delete and add to. At the gaming table I have kept notes on my group for ten years. Here I was allowed to do the same work and to check it too.
GirlfriendGPT runs as a web app you put on your home screen as a bookmark, and it is operated by the same Canadian company as SpicyChat. The old address with the brand name redirects to today's domain, which is why you find the spelling Girlfriend GPT in two variants online; both mean the same platform. Inside waits a library that the site itself puts at around 29,000 public characters, plus a builder that looks more like a character sheet than like picking a partner.
I tested by my fixed protocol: free access first, then a paid month, my three scenes in two sessions each, the memory test on day seven. The tavern was strong, the interrogation was the best performance in this category so far, and on day seven my character knew my cat is called Pixel, because I had written that entry into the panel myself. That is exactly the point: the memory here is not an automatic system but a tool.
All prices below are in US dollars, exactly as the checkout bills them; what lands on your statement depends on your card and your local sales tax. Checked on October 1, 2026. The pricing page only loads its dollar amounts after you log in, so the figures below are marked as reported and come from several dated checkout checks, while plan names, message limits and context sizes are confirmed from the page text itself.
What is GirlfriendGPT?
GirlfriendGPT is an AI roleplay platform for adults only, operated by NextDay AI Incorporated of Montreal, the same company that runs SpicyChat, with sister companies in Delaware and in Cyprus. You browse a community library that the platform puts at around 29,000 public characters, build your own characters on a paid plan with a profile of up to 2,500 tokens, and chat with models that are named only by tier. Over the top of that sit a monthly message limit (5,000 on the middle tier, 20,000 on the second-highest, unlimited on the top one), a context window of 8K or 16K, and a coin balance that pays for images, voice lines and short video clips. There is no store app: the platform is a web app you install yourself, plus an Android installation file on the download page.
How I tested GirlfriendGPT
I followed my protocol. First free access, which ends after twenty messages and allows neither character building nor adult content. Then a paid month with my own card, and inside it my three scenes in two sessions each: the tavern for loose conversation, the interrogation where the character has to hold a position against me, and the quiet evening where nothing happens on purpose. Three personal details on the first evening, asked about on day seven, once with a maintained memory panel and once without. Plus the builder, the standalone image generator, voice playback, one video out of an image, and every legal page the platform publishes.
- Plans checked: Free access and one paid month with my own card; the remaining tiers from the text of the pricing page and dated independent checkout checks
- Free access: Twenty messages in total, not per day, described as a trial of the top chat model; community characters, limited images in the chat, welcome coins; no character building, no adult content
- Three scenes: Tavern, interrogation, quiet evening, two sessions each, once with a community character and once with one I built in the builder
- Memory test: Three details placed on the first evening (the cat's name, my job, one dislike), asked about on day seven; with a maintained panel all three came back, without the panel one did
- Media checked: Images in the chat, the standalone generator with its creativity slider, the model for consistent faces, voice playback with automatic output, one clip out of a gallery image
- Documents read: Terms of service (version of June 18, 2026), privacy policy (April 13, 2026), community guidelines (April 16, 2026), the policies on blocked content, content removal and minors
- Installation checked: Installing the web app on the phone from the sidebar; no listings in the App Store or on Google Play, but an Android installation file on the download page
- Not tested with my own card: The annual plan on every tier and the coin packs; both appear here as reported, not as checked
What GirlfriendGPT gets right
The memory panel gives you control nobody else offers
On the upper tiers a list opens next to the chat with two parts: the entries the model has created about you itself, and your own saved memories, which you can add, edit, select in bulk or delete. An extra view shows which entries fed into the last reply. As a game master that is the difference between hoping and working: I see what the character believes about me, and I correct it before it ruins a scene.
The replies are long, in role and hold a plot together
The models on the paid tiers write paragraphs instead of one-liners and keep the character's voice even through changes of tone. In the interrogation my character asked back three times before she admitted anything, and she did not tip into explanation mode when I raised the pressure. The storytelling engine on the top tier keeps a plot thread noticeably straighter than the tier below it, and adult scenes run without the gentle redirections that filter refugees give up over.
Library and profile field are built for people who like tinkering
Around 29,000 public characters, filterable by scenario, dominance, fictional or realistic, image style and author, sortable by popular, new and top rated, and public characters are moderated before release. The builder takes a description of up to 2,500 tokens, plus tags, switchable player profiles and per-character image settings. Anyone with a folder full of character cards from other platforms finds the room here to write them out properly.
Media sit inside the conversation, not beside it
Images in the chat, voice playback with automatic output on the two upper tiers, a call mode in the chat and turning any gallery image into a short clip all live where the scene happens. A dedicated image model exists explicitly to keep a face the same across several runs. Whether that is worth the coins is settled in the section on costs; that it does not sit in a separate tool next door is a real advantage for a scene in progress.
I send one email a week: which AI character app has slipped on memory, where the prices have changed and which character really survived my three scenes. No hype, no daily mail.
Where GirlfriendGPT frustrated me
Who this is not for: people who want to try before they buy
Twenty messages, in total and not per day, with community characters only, no character building and no adult content. The site itself describes this access as a short look behind the door, and the note in the app says bluntly that free members may browse but only paying members bring characters to life. You cannot judge GirlfriendGPT without paying, and on a platform with this price ladder that is the most uncomfortable trait of all.
Who this is not for: people with a ten-dollar budget
The pricing page describes the middle tier as premium models with chat history and only the next one as premium plus uncensored chats, which makes adult content a plan feature and not a switch. Independent checks disagree on whether the middle tier gets it at all. For a platform whose home page advertises the absence of filters, that is a lot of fine print, and it means the honest entry price is the $35 a month tier, not the $15 one.
Who this is not for: people who want one bill a month
Every plan comes with a monthly coin balance, which independent checks put at 400, 1,200 and 2,000, and every image, every voice line, every clip and every run of the consistency image model draws it down. The interface warns you about the coin cost, which is fair, but it does not change the fact that coin packs for $10, $25 and $50 are sold on top. Testers who keep track put an active month at $25 to $50, and that matches my paid month.
Who this is not for: people who care about retention periods
The privacy policy states that personal data is kept for six years after you stop being a user, and it does not distinguish between account data and chat logs. On top of that come a license to your content worded as worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual and irrevocable, no clear word on model training, Google Analytics, and a class action waiver in the terms. Anyone switching away from somewhere else over privacy will find no progress here.

Who should actually use GirlfriendGPT
GirlfriendGPT is worth it for exactly one kind of player, and for him it is worth it properly: you already know you want long, detailed scenes, you write profiles instead of picking faces, and you are willing to put five minutes into a memory panel after every session. Unlimited messages, 16K context and a memory you can correct are the reason this platform exists, and at around $33 a month on the annual plan that is a defensible price for daily use.
My route would be: pay for the $35 tier for one month, monthly and not yearly, and maintain the panel from the first evening. After every session delete the wrong entries and add the two or three facts that are supposed to stay. Only once the app has pulled you back three weeks in a row is it worth moving up to the top tier on the annual plan. The middle tier at $15 does not appear in my recommendation, because its context loses the thread in long scenes.
GirlfriendGPT is not for you if you want to start cheap: the same company runs a platform you can use for free whose price ladder starts at $5.95. It is also not for you if you want a character who remembers without your help, or if images are the main reason, because the faces drift between runs more than image-focused apps allow. Which tier you need decides more here than any line you type.
GirlfriendGPT in roleplay: how far the storytelling engine carries a scene
My interrogation is the most uncomfortable of my three scenes: the character has to hold a position against me while I put her under systematic pressure, and most apps give in after three exchanges or tip into explanation mode. GirlfriendGPT delivered the strongest performance of this test series here. My customs officer asked back twice, turned my own argument against me once, and only admitted something on the fourth attempt.
That comes down to two things. First the length: the models on the paid tiers write paragraphs where action, bearing and dialogue stand together, instead of one-liners you can only react to. Second the storytelling engine on the top tier, which keeps a plot thread visibly straighter across a whole session than the tier below it. Mid-chat the platform also lets you switch back to a cheaper engine, and that comparison is the most honest proof that the difference is real.
What actually happened in the interrogation
One detail convinced me, and it is a small one. In the first session I had told my character that I hate meetings before nine, and two sessions later I claimed in the interrogation that I am an early riser. She corrected me, citing what I had said earlier, and built an argument against me out of it. At the gaming table that is what you call a good player, and in an AI character app I had not seen it before.
The counterpart to that is the inertia on mood changes. If I flip the tone mid-scene, from friendly to cold, the character needs two turns before she goes along, and writes in the old register in the meantime. For long, quiet scenes that is irrelevant. For the hard cut I use as a game master to turn a scene, it costs effect, and I have got into the habit of writing the switch in as a short stage direction.
What the tiers change in practice
The platform does not name its models, only their tier, and that grates if you are used to picking a model. In practice it means this: the cheap tier repeats itself sooner, drops side threads and, according to several checks, occasionally breaks off mid-sentence. The upper tiers do not do that, and in my quiet evening, the third scene where nothing happens on purpose, the character filled the gap with a position of her own instead of asking me questions about myself.
In the tavern the result was almost too detailed by contrast. If you want short, hard exchanges you have to write a line about speech style into the profile, otherwise you get three paragraphs for every remark. A single line about speech style in the profile changes more here than any price tier.
GirlfriendGPT experience: the memory panel and the test after seven days
This is where the platform is different from every other one on my list, and for a structural reason. Everywhere else the memory is a black box: the app claims to remember, and on day seven you find out whether that was true. On the upper tiers of GirlfriendGPT you instead open a panel with two lists, the one the AI created itself and your own, and see in a third view which entries fed into the last reply.
So my test ran twice. Three details on the first evening, my cat Pixel’s name, my job and one dislike, once with the panel maintained and once without. With upkeep all three came back on day seven, and they came back in passing, not on demand. Without upkeep one came back, which is roughly the average for the category. The same service, the same model, two completely different results, and the difference was five minutes of work per session.
The routine I recommend
It is short. After every session open the panel, read through the entries the model created itself, and delete everything that is wrong, because wrong entries are worse than missing ones. Then add two or three lines of your own, worded bluntly and briefly, the way you would on a character sheet: job, where you live, the cat’s name, the limit that is not crossed.
Two observations from the paid month. First, it pays to group entries by scene rather than by importance, because then on the next evening you can see which backstory currently applies. Second, the view of the most recently used entries is the best diagnostic tool I know in this category: if a character is running off track, it tells you which note she read on that turn.
One point deserves honesty: the panel is not a memory but a card index that gets read into the model. It does not make the character cleverer, it only stops her believing something false. In my paid month I saw three times that the model had created an entry drawn from a roleplay lie my own player character had told, and then treated it as fact. That is exactly what the delete button is for.
If you do not want to do that work at all, you are better off at Nomi AI, where several memory layers handle the same job inside the system. That is the difference between a 7 and a 9 on this sub-score: here you get a tool, there you get a result.
GirlfriendGPT pricing: what a month really costs with coins included
The price structure is the reason this grade is not a B. There are four tiers, and the number the home page advertises does not belong to the tier that delivers the advertised promise. Adult content appears on the pricing page as a feature of the second-highest tier, not as a switch, and independent checks disagree on whether the middle tier gets it at all. So the honest entry price is $35 a month.
| How you play | Which tier you need | What realistically adds up per month |
|---|---|---|
| Just trying it out | free access | $0, twenty messages, then it stops |
| Long scenes, little media | second-highest tier, monthly | around $35 |
| Playing daily, images and clips | top tier plus a coin pack | $50 to $75, depending on use |
| Playing daily, annual plan | top tier, yearly | around $33 a month, locked in for a year |
Then comes the second counter. Every tier brings a monthly coin balance, which independent checks put at 400, 1,200 and 2,000, and images, voice lines, clips and the runs of the consistency image model come off it. The interface is unusually open about it: it warns you about the coin cost before it deducts, and shows the cost per generation at the model selector. Even so, coin packs for $10, $25 and $50 are sold on top, and a price per image appears on no official page.
What is not in that table is the discount campaign. The site runs price cuts for free users regularly, which is why two independent checks quote lower amounts than the four the majority agree on. If you run into one of those offers, check whether it carries over to the renewal or only covers the first month; on this price ladder that is a difference of several hundred dollars a year.
Payment runs by card, by bank transfer and in Korea through a regional service. Refunds are excluded under the terms except for a fault on the provider’s side or a technical failure, with review within fourteen days. The message allowance resets monthly and does not carry over, so there is no point saving it up. My advice is therefore the same as everywhere: start monthly, and take the annual plan only once two charges have gone through without a surprise. You play more cheaply at SpicyChat, which belongs to the same company and starts at $5.95 a month.
The GirlfriendGPT library and the character builder
The library is the second reason to come. The uncensored chat page counts a little over 29,000 public characters, independent checks name more than 25,000 across around eighty tag categories, and the filters cover scenario, dominance, fictional or realistic, image style and author, sortable by popular, new and top rated. Public characters are moderated before release, which is why the library feels cleaner than open dumping grounds and why authors complain about waiting times for approval.
The builder is where the platform earns its label for heavy writers. The description field takes up to 2,500 tokens, there is a minimum length before a character may go public, plus tags, switchable player profiles for different roles and per-character image settings. This is not a slider builder like the one at Nastia AI but a blank page with plenty of room, and for someone who writes character sheets that is the more pleasant variant.
Two limits. First, character building is completely locked for free members, and the note in the app is unambiguous about it. Second, checks report a cap of two custom characters on some tiers and unlimited on others, while the pricing page only speaks of custom characters; if you build a lot, read the plan card in the checkout. How that stacks up against the rest of the field is in my comparison of the best AI character apps.
Images, voice and video at GirlfriendGPT
Images arrive by two routes. In the chat the character sends them herself, limited on free access and included on the paid plans. On a separate page you instead write your own prompt for a selected character, pick a style, set the number and move a creativity slider that the interface itself describes as producing more varied results that may not necessarily match the character. There is an upscale, a gallery of your own and the paid unlocking of other people’s galleries.
The problem is consistency, and the platform admits it indirectly: the newest image model is advertised explicitly as delivering more accurate and more consistent results, and it costs coins per run. Two independent checks and the only detailed Trustpilot rating still describe the face drifting between poses and outfits. My own runs of the same character varied more than image-focused apps allow. The drawn style is strong, the photorealistic one sits a level below it.
Voice, calls and clips
Voice here means speech output over the character’s replies, with automatic playback on the two upper tiers, plus a call mode in the chat and the option to receive calls from the character. Billing is by synthesized text, not out of a fixed allowance. The emphasis usually fits the line, which really does change something in a quiet evening, but it is not a real-time conversational voice, and the video calls the marketing mentions are the clips in the next paragraph.
Turning an image into a video arrived in March 2026 for the two upper tiers, according to the official blog post: pick an image in the gallery, start the conversion, describe the motion you want, choose a video model. The pricing page distinguishes a basic model with clips up to five seconds from a pair of basic and strong models with up to ten seconds on the top tier, and sound on video is listed there as a separate coin item. What arrives today is a short animated flicker of a still image. Treat it as decoration, not as a reason for a tier.
The GirlfriendGPT app, language and what gets stored
Language works in the conversation, not in the interface. My characters answered in whatever language I wrote in, and a profile I wrote myself in another language worked cleanly. The interface and all the legal texts are English, and the public characters are described in English almost without exception, which occasionally pulls a character back into English. One line in the profile that fixes the language solves that reliably.
There is no store app, and that is a deliberate decision. You open the site, tap the install button in the sidebar, and the browser puts the app on your home screen; for Android there is an installation file on the download page as well. The platform says so openly and sidesteps the store rules on adult content that way. How big it is remains unclear: the banner on the home page speaks of over a million users, its own year in review of almost fifty million, and an external estimate names around 1.6 million members with roughly 400,000 weekly actives. I take the smaller number as the honest one; the large one is very probably visitor traffic.
Who is behind it and how long the data stays
The operator is NextDay AI Incorporated of Montreal, with sister companies in Delaware and in Limassol, Cyprus, all three named in the footer of every page. This is the same company that runs SpicyChat, which is why both platforms share a Discord and strikingly similar legal pages. The terms are governed by the law of Quebec with exclusive jurisdiction there, and they contain a class action waiver.
The privacy policy names six years of retention for personal data after you stop being a user, without distinguishing between account data and conversation logs. What is collected is sign-up data including date of birth, device and browser data, IP address, usage patterns, location signals and, in the policy’s own wording, your conversations with the companions. Google Analytics is embedded, no hosting location is named, safeguards for international transfers are not described, and the policy mentions no export tool. It does grant deletion rights under the GDPR, but then narrows them again in the next clause with legal grounds.
Two things are better than average here. First, the content removal policy: complaints about content resembling a real person are reviewed within five business days, unlawful content comes down immediately, and a rejected request can be escalated to an independent reviewer at the company’s expense. That is a real process. Second, the openness about who is behind it, with three addresses and a complaints route that works.
What stands against that is the license. The terms grant a license to your content worded as worldwide, unrestricted, royalty-free, perpetual and irrevocable, and declare edited content the sole property of the platform. Neither the policy nor the terms say anything clear about model training, and an opt-out switch is missing. The age gate is a self-declaration with a stricter verification step in some regions and a pledge to report child protection violations. My practical advice stays the same: a separate email address, no real names in profiles or memory entries, and anyone coming from Character.AI because of the filter should read my comparison of the Character.AI alternatives first instead of buying the most expensive tier right away.
GirlfriendGPT: frequently asked questions
Is GirlfriendGPT free?
Barely. Free access gives you twenty messages in total, not per day, described as a trial of the top chat model, plus access to the library, a shared chat and a few welcome coins for first images. You cannot build your own characters, and adult content is a feature of the paid plans. Treat it as a demonstration: to know whether the platform suits you, you need at least one paid month, realistically the tier with uncensored chats.
What does GirlfriendGPT cost per month?
According to dated independent checkout checks from mid-2026, the middle tier costs $15 a month, the next one $35 and the top one $50; on the annual plan that works out at roughly $12, $24.50 and $33 a month. The official page only shows those amounts after you log in, so check them in the checkout. On top of that come coin packs for $10, $25 or $50 if you generate a lot of images or clips, and in practice an active month lands between $25 and $50.
How good is the GirlfriendGPT memory?
It depends entirely on the plan. The top tier has 16K context and an extended long-term memory whose entries you can view, edit and delete in the panel; the tier below gets 8K context and saved memories; the middle one gets the standard context, which testers say loses the thread after fifteen to twenty messages. In my memory test on day seven, all three details came back with the panel maintained, and one came back without it. The tool works, but you have to use it.
Is GirlfriendGPT really uncensored?
For paying users yes, within clear rules. Adult roleplay between fictional adults runs on the two upper tiers without blocks, redirections or lectures. The blocked content policy describes a dedicated model filter plus human review for anything that looks underage, for real people, sexual violence, incest and hate speech, and the community guidelines add extreme material. Within those lines the character stays in her own voice, and that is the strength here.
Which languages does GirlfriendGPT handle?
In the conversation, whichever one you write in; in the interface, English only. My characters answered in the language I used, and a profile I wrote myself in another language worked cleanly. The interface, the pricing page and all the legal texts are in English, and the profiles of the public characters are written in English almost without exception, which can occasionally pull a character back into English. If you want to play in another language, build your own character and write a line about language into the profile.
Is there a GirlfriendGPT app in the stores?
No. There is no App Store listing and none on Google Play. The platform is a web app: you open the site, tap the install button in the sidebar, and the browser puts it on your home screen on iOS, Android or the desktop. For Android there is an installation file on the download page as well. The site says openly that you should skip the stores, which is how it sidesteps their rules on adult content.
Do I get my money back at GirlfriendGPT?
As a rule, no. The terms of service exclude refunds for paid subscriptions except in the case of a fault on the provider's side or a technical failure, and requests are reviewed within fourteen days. You turn off renewal at any time in the account settings and keep access until the end of the term. The message allowance resets monthly and does not carry over. So start monthly and only move to an annual plan later.
Is GirlfriendGPT the same as SpicyChat?
Same company, two different bets. Both platforms belong to NextDay AI of Montreal, share a Discord and a family resemblance in their legal pages, but they sit at opposite ends of the price ladder: one is usable for free and starts paid at $5.95, the other is a twenty-message trial with plans from $15 to $50. If you are new, start with the cheap one. GirlfriendGPT is the upgrade you take when you want an editable memory and video in the chat.
The verdict: is GirlfriendGPT worth it?
GirlfriendGPT gets 6.6 out of 10, so grade C+. Conversation sits at 8, because the replies are long and in role, the storytelling engine on the top tier keeps a plot straight, and my interrogation saw the strongest performance of this test series here. Memory sits at 7: the editable panel and the 16K context are the best tools in this category, but they exist only on the expensive tiers, and the cheap one simply forgets. Pricing sits at 5: twenty free messages, an honest entry only at $35, a coin counter on every image and no refunds except for a fault on the provider's side. Privacy sits at 5, because the company discloses who is behind it and how to complain, but then stores for six years, says nothing about training and demands a perpetual license to your content.
As a game master I take away one thing I have missed everywhere since: a memory you can read and correct is a different product from a memory you have to hope for. With the panel maintained, all three details came back on day seven; without it, one did. That is the same difference a note card makes at the gaming table. If you like that work, GirlfriendGPT is the best choice in this round. If you do not, you are paying here for a tool you will not use.
I pay for every subscription myself, play the same three scenes everywhere and check the memory after a week. Compare the whole field before you commit.
